Warming Center is open

Troup County and the surrounding area remain under a Winter Weather & Wind Chill Advisory beginning tonight through Wednesday.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City forecasted as much as 1.8 inches of snow for LaGrange.

Please be careful on the roadways as icy conditions and sub-freezing temperatures are expected through Thursday.

City of LaGrange crews are on standby to treat bridges and roadways as conditions start to deteriorate.

The LaGrange-Troup Homeless Coalition’s Warming Center will remain open through Friday.

The hours of operation for the center  are 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. The Warming Center is located at 150 East Lukken Industrial Drive in LaGrange.

If you or anyone you know may need help getting to the Warming Center, you can call 911 or come to the LaGrange Police Department and an officer will provide a ride to the center.

The LaGrange Housing Authority also offers free transportation.

There is a need for microwavable meals, soft drinks, and overnight volunteers. If you would like to volunteer, please go to www.tchomeless.com.

When the weather gets this cold the city of LaGrange asks that you remember the four P’s — people, pets, pipes and plants.

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving. A Wind Chill Advisory means that cold air and the wind will combine to create low wind chills. Frost bite and hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken. Make sure you wear a hat and gloves. Be prepared for reduced visibilities at times. The cold wind chills will cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin.
