Youth hoops league wrapping up

The City-Wide Elementary Basketball League will wrap up next week, with a pair of local teams facing off for the championship.

The league kicked off in January, with teams from Berta Weathersbee, Callaway, LaGrange Academy, Ethel Kight and Long Cane participating.

The teams have played games every Wednesday night at Whitesville Road Elementary School.

League play will conclude for the season on Wednesday with a pair of games.

First up at 5:30 p.m. will be the third-place game between Ethel Kight Gold and Ethel Kight Blue.

Then at 6:30 p.m., Berta Weathersbee and Long Cane will face off in the championship game.

The semifinals were held last week.

Berta Weathersbee beat LaGrange Academy 32-20, Long Cane handled Ethel Kight Gold 35-21, and Berta Weathersbee played a second game and got past Ethel Kight Blue 27-17.

6:30 p.m. – Championship game between Berta Weathersbee and Long Cane
