Seven combined players from LaGrange and Troup earned a place on the Class AAAA preseason all-state team.

Troup had four football players make the all-state team, and that includes running back Anthony Ferguson and offensive lineman Royce White, who were both first-team selections.

Ferguson transferred to Troup from Manchester after running for more than 1,600 yards with 26 touchdowns last season.

Ferguson, who has committed to Kennesaw State, will team with Navontae Moss to give Troup a potent one-two combination at running back.

White, one of the men who’ll be blocking for Ferguson and Moss, also made the first team.

White, who committed to Memphis earlier this year, will help anchor an offensive line that should be a strength for Troup.

“I dedicate my life to football,” White said earlier this year. “It’s what I love. It’s my passion, it’s my dream.”

Two Troup players, Jace Godwin and Zy Varner, were honorable-mention selections on the all-state team.

Varner will play a key role for Troup as a linebacker and wide receiver, while Godwin is a veteran defensive back and a multi-year starter.

LaGrange, meanwhile, had three players make the all-state team as honorable-mention picks.

Included in that group is wide receiver A.J. Traylor, who will be a key component of LaGrange’s offense under the direction of first-year head coach Matt Napier.

“He’s a super-talented kid,” Napier said. “He’s physical, and he makes plays on the deep ball really well.”

Also making the all-state team is Jacquez Smith, who can play defensive line or linebacker.

“Quez is a great athlete,” Napier said. “He’s really put on some good weight and become a good player, and he’s really committed to our team over this summer period.”

Another all-state player for LaGrange is running back Caleb Ross, who was one of the team’s top offensive play-makers last season.
