The Lafayette Christian School Cougars made their home debut and beat Skipstone Academy 21-8 on Friday night to improve to 3-0.

Lafayette Christian, with its defense delivering a dominant performance, built a 21-0 lead before Skipstone avoided the shutout with a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

The Cougars jumped on top in the first quarter, with Cason Firth coming through with a 65-yard touchdown run, and Ben Dixon’s extra point made it a 7-0 game.

In the second quarter, Jacob Carvelas threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Cameron Elliott, and the lead was 14-0 following a Dixon extra point.

In the fourth quarter, the Cougars’ defense got into the act, with Tyson Karvelas returning an interception for a touchdown, and the lead was 21-0 with six minutes to play.

Skipstone scored a touchdown late, but the outcome had already been determined.

Lafayette Christian, which has finished second in the state the past two seasons, will look to improve to 3-0 when it visits Central Christian next Friday.  “We had some banged-up players, and we hope they’ll be back when we go to Newnan (to play Central),” said Lafayette Christian head coach Billy Bryant.
