Troup records 105 new COVID-19 cases on Friday — second most in one day

For the second time since the start of the pandemic, Troup County has recorded more than 100 positive COVID-19 cases in one day.

Troup County had 105 new COVID-19 cases Friday, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health. The only other time Troup County topped 100 cases in a day was June 23, when results came back from mass testing at the Troup County Jail.

It’s unclear if any mass testing resulted in the large one-day increase seen Friday, but GDPH reports that there were 465 total PCR tests collected in Troup County on Jan. 4, a number much higher than most days since August.

Troup had 37 new cases Saturday and 53 on Sunday, according to GDPH. Troup County is currently averaging 40.1 new cases per day over the last seven days. The last time Troup was averaging that many cases over seven days was on July 2, according to GDPH.

Troup has 4,416 total cases since the start of the pandemic and has 125 deaths.

Twenty-three percent of COVID-19 tests have been positive in Troup County the last two weeks, per GDPH data.
